Olympic Torch Relay

This year was the summer of London 2012. The events leading up to the launch of the Olympics were in full swing and we were lucky enough to have the Olympic Torch Relay pass just down the road from us. I managed to grab a few shots as the Relay Runner passed by, but I was surprised by how quickly the circus moved past, one minute they were there, they next they were gone.

It was more impressive to see the local community turn out in force. The atmosphere was great and everyone looked like they were having a great time. I wonder how long it will be before we get the Olympics here in Birmingham?

Fairbourne: A Train Journey

I love Fairbourne. It is a magical place that I return to year after year. One of the many amazing things there is the little steam railway. Last time I was there I decided to shoot a very simple Super 8 short. The result became Fairbourne: A Train Journey, which takes us from Penrhyn Point along the beach to Fairbourne Station. This hidden gem in the Welsh Countryside is a beautiful way to explore the Mawddach Estuary and beyond. The music has been especially composed by Scott Pawsey for this film and is © Scott Pawsey.

RAFT – Script Film Production Stills

These are a set of behind the scenes photographs from the RAFT (Reel Access Film Theatre) First Light production of Script.

They were taken over the filming weekend, and give you a glimpse into the making of a short film, written, directed, filmed and performed by a group of talented young filmmakers. This was the second of our films made especially for First Light. Hopefully we’ll make the First Light Awards nominations again this year.

October, a month of falling leaves, nights drawing in and a cold nip in the air. So what better way to spend the day than with the lovely people from Vintage Chic Wedding Fairs. Once again we were in The Old Library in Birmingham being serenaded by the elegant vocals of Simon Partridge. Although I’m not planning on getting married myself, it’s always a pleasure to be surrounded by such a wonderful group of exhibitors and excited brides-to-be.

It was a change from the previous venues but the whole thing still felt the same thanks to the wonderful work done by event organisers Cathy and Susie, and of course all of the amazing exhibitors.

Bearwood Handmade Winter 2011

“What if Christmas this year, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, in Bearwood. means a little bit more…”

A huge thanks to the Crafty Muthas who did a great job hosting and organising the Bearwood Handmade Winter Fair and really making Christmas mean a little bit more.

The fair was held at St. Mary’s Church, Bearwood, Sandwell on Saturday 3rd December 2011 and featured over 40 local artisans. The whole event was a credit to the local creative community and the people of Bearwood and beyond came in their hundreds to pick up that extra special christmas gift.

It was a also great opportunity to film some of the extremely talented exhibitors’ and their work and I thank you all for allowing me to do so.

8mm: Bearwood On Ice

Last year in the run up to Christmas, Lightwoods Park had a little bit of New York Christmas style arrive in the form of an ice rink. I didn’t get a chance to skate but I did shoot a quick 8mm film of Bearwood On Ice using the Super 8 app on my iPhone 3GS.

At the end of last year I was once again at the Vintage Chic Wedding Fair (having a very talented partner attending these events has it’s perks) so I put together another set of scenes from the Midlands Vintage Chic Wedding Fair. This event was held at The Old Library in The Custard Factory, Birmingham on Sunday 30th October 2011, and is likely to be they last one there for a while as the fair has grown in size and is no filling The Centennial Centre on the other side of town. As always thanks to Cathy, Susie and all of the exhibitors for making me feel so welcome.
